Large-format volume, measuring approximately 9.75" x 11", is bound in gray cloth, with stamped gilt lettering to spine and front cover. Book is in fine condition. Dust jacket shows light shelfwear, with wear at top edge of spine panel and at outside upper corner of rear panel. Jacket is preserved in mylar cover. Book is in slipcase. 119 pages plus 124 pages on plates.
"The Venetian Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, the greatest painter of the Italian Settecento and the last heir to Italian fresco painting, created his masterpiece in the frescoes of the Würzburg royal residence. Balthasar Neumann's ingenious festival rooms increased his creative power to the highest degree.
The baroque act of state is reflected in the two murals in the imperial hall (Kaisersaal). The primal power of light is celebrated in a mythological allegory on the ceiling of the Kaisersaal. The baroque world theater spanning earth and sky is reflected in the triumphal processions of the parts of the world in the stairwell ceiling painting with its central depiction of the planetary deities circling around the sun god."
