AN EXCELLENT COPY IN ORIGINAL, UNSOPHISTICATED CONDITION. Preserved in a fitted cloth case. ¶ PROPERTY, INHERITANCE, AND COMPETING ECCLESIASTICAL AND CIVIL JURISDICTIONS: TWO RARE LEGAL WORKS IN STRICTLY ORIGINAL CONDITION. ¶ Submissions for an appeal on behalf of the Estates General of Brittany relating to property covered by the jurisdiction of the royal abbey of Saint Melaine, Rennes. Subsequently sold, the value had been awarded to heirs of the Comte de Villeneuve (d. 1678), who had inherited the property from Henri de Bourbon, Marquis de Malause. The Estates General wished to assert the jurisdiction of the abbey (with themselves acting as court of appeal), against the Parlement of Paris, and also to divert the considerable sums from the beneficiary the Duc de la Rochefoucauld. ¶ The Appeals were initiated by M. de Gennes de la Motte who was the Avocat des Etats de Bretagne. ¶ Of these two works OCLC lists only the BNF (with a date of "1738"); not in COPAC. ¶ FINE COPY, stitched as issued. With a contemporary MS note at head of title-page: "conflit creance", and at head of p. 3: "reglement dejuge, competence, creances." ¶ REFERENCE: Bibliotheque Nationale de France, Catalogue des factums et d'autres documents judiciaires anterieurs (Vol. I, p. 295).
