David Longworth, For The Author, 1802. First Edition. Hardcover. Acceptable. Volume 1 only. First Edition. Full leather, non-contemporary strip of leather attached over the spine and joints with a square opening for the original spine label to show. Front board is detached but included and rear board is splitting along the joint ends but is still currently attached. Board corners rubbed through. Frontispiece portrait, title page and dedication page are loose but included. Otherwise textblock is solid, no missing pages. Front free endpaper has "The Property of Rob. D. Montgomery Dec. 17, 1803" written in pen along the top edge. Another name, not very legible is written in pencil underneath dated 1866. Rear pastedown has "Page 294" written in pen, on page 294 a name is underlined. No other marks or notations. 506 pages. Moultrie played an important part in the Cherokee War and American Revolution in South Carolina, eventually having Fort Moultrie named after him. The state flag of South Carolina features the crescent and palmetto tree on a blue background, the crescent on blue was originally designed by Moultrie as a flag for South Carolina troops in the American Revolution.
