Twenty engraved plates with tissue guards (complete), sixteen of which are portraits of the commanders including Admiral Byng and Captain Cook and four of which are historic scenes including the defeat of the Spanish Armada and the Battle of the Nile. Each plate has a separately paginated chapter to accompany it. Book Condition: Very Good. Half calf ; original spine laid down over modern leather with patterned paper-covered boards. Five raised bands, gilt stamped titles and decoration, aeg. Leather a little rubbed to extremities but a sound tight copy. Sporadic foxing, heaviest to plate edges; no annotation or inscriptions. Scarce.
