Sobre este artículo
London 1714. J. Round, W. Taylor, J. Brown, W. Lewis. J. Graves.
First Edition in English. 8vo.
Original French edition appeared in 1713. Translated by Mr. Abel Boyer, it is an account of the amorous intrigues of the Restoration court by French nobleman, Philibert, Count de Grammont as told to his brother in law Anthony Hamilton.
Because of the content, the book was on the "Vatican Index" until 1965.
1714 edition with later dark green coloured boards (probably early 20th century) and endpapers added. Boards are half calf and in very good condition. Raised bands on spine. Morocco label. Gilt lettering and tooling. Head and tail of spine a little rubbed. Binding very good.
Text block well preserved. Catchwords throughout. Some notations on title page (see images). Some occasional foxing/browning and some sporadic damp staining on leaves. Page 67 has a tiny indecipherable notation with the date May 4 1728 written in ink.
Ultimately, a very good scarce First Edition.
