Lockhart and bound in contemporary leather. This was an acclaimed biography, written by the author's son-in-law and first published in seven volumes between 1837 and 1838. It included the publication of many of the author's letters. It has been described as 'the most admirable biography in the English language' after Boswell's 'Life of Johnson'.Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was a Scottish novelist and poet. Scott remains a celebrated figure in Scottish literary history, and the landscape of Scotland features heavily in his works. He was a member of Clan Scott, a prominent Scottish clan. Containing the ownership inscription of Wilfred De Winton (1856-1929), a major benefactor of the National Museum of Wales, who donated over two thousands pieces of eighteenth and nineteenth century porcelain. All ten volumes of this work are present. Each volume is complete with an engraved title page and frontispiece illustration, bar volume I, which is lacking the engraved title page but has a frontispiece illustration.
