He was Sir Walter Scott's friend and son in law, best known for this biography of Scott, which has been called the second most admirable biography in the English language after Boswell's Life of Johnson. Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright and poet. He was one of the most popular writers of the 19th century, and his works were read internationally in Europe, Australia and North America. In the original publisher's cloth. Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
