American Anthrpologist, 1918. pages 432-436, offprint from the American Anthropologist (New Series, v. 20, Oct-Dec, 1918) with two pages of plates showing the Powell monument which was designed by Pieter Burggraaf. Dellenbaugh as a seventeen-year-old of life embarked with Major John Wesley Powell and a crew of amateur scientists at Green River, Wyoming, on Powell's second expedition down the Colorado River in 1871. Though he studied art and other subjects, Dellenbaugh could never forget the majesty of what he had experienced. His books earned him the title: Historian of the Grand Canyon. Here is his deep appreciation written nearly sixty years later. This is one of the few signed copies of a very scarce item.
