[San Francisco, 1884. 249pp., plus frontispiece portrait. Original white cloth, front board gilt, a.e.g. Cloth soiled and edgeworn. Portrait a bit foxed, early ownership signature on titlepage, else quite clean internally. Very good. In a cloth chemise and half morocco and cloth slipcase, spine gilt. A scarce, privately-printed celebration of the life of the young son of railroad magnate, Leland Stanford, who died of typhoid in 1884, just shy of his sixteenth birthday. A university in the San Francisco Bay Area was built as a memorial to him. The biographical sketch is signed "H.C.N.
