An attractively bound copy of the author's requiem for his beloved friend Arthur Henry Hallam, who died suddenly, at the age of 22, of a cerebral haemorrhage in Vienna in 1833. "The friendship, deepening into love, of Hallam and Tennyson was to be one of the most important experiences of Hallam's short life and of Tennyson's long one" (ODNB). It was first published in 1850. Octavo (160 x 97 mm). Contemporary green morocco, spine and covers lettered, ruled, and tooled in gilt, covers with gilt urn centrepiece, yellow endpapers, edges gilt. Bound without half-title. Spine darkened, rubbing to head of rear cover and extremities, foxing to outer leaves, else clean. A very good copy, nicely bound.
