London: Chatto and Windus, 1909. [Essay collection] FINE LEATHER BINDING. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.[13] 299 [4]. Tan half calf with doubled marbled paper over boards. Gilt foliar tooling and titles to spine, raised bands. With doubled marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Interior is mostly clean with some spotting to the first and last few leaves as well as heavy toning to edges. Light bumping to bottom of fore edge. A few marks to top edge gilt. Leather is rubbed and toned, especially to spine. A few marks including a circular stain to upper board and a small horizontal scratch to lower. Minor sunning to the top of the upper board. Very good. In this fascinatingly diverse collection of essays, Stevenson jumps from analysing the inherent romance of reading books to discussing the moral character of dogs.
