This is The Merchant Schooners, an excellent book written by the former director of Britain's National Maritime Museum Basil Greenhill (1920-2003). It was published in two volumes in 1951. In 1988, the Naval Institute Press published it in the US, condensed into one volume.
It is the story of the small fore- and aft-rigged merchant sailing ships in England and Wales from 1870 to 1940. It is a portrait of the industry and a way of life that is now gone. It explains how the ships were designed, built and financed, and describes the men and commanders and their lives. It includes 250+ illustrations, including ships records, specs and technical drawings.
310 pages, 8" x 11".
This is normally a $100 book, but there are three issues with it: the dust jacket is not in the best of shape, there are smudges on the front endpapers and, on pages 52 and 53, there are two small spots where the paper has come off, although this doesn't interfere with reading the text.
Other than that, it's in perfect condition.
