Lightly tanned edges and pages. Tear at gutter inside spine; board still firmly attached (see picture). One page with chips at bottom corner noted. Dust jacket with chips and small tears; small loss at top back. Merle S. Evans (1891 - 1987) was the legendary band conductor for the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus for fifty years (1919-1969). Originally a cornet player from Columbus, Kansas, he became known as the "Toscanini of the Big Top." Evans was inducted into the American Bandmasters Association in 1947 and the International Circus Hall of Fame in 1975. He died in 1987 in Sarasota, Florida.
