Roustan. 8vo up to 9½" tall. (6), ii, 296, (2) pages printed on coated paper. Quarter red leather over marbled boards; gilt titles to banded spine; marbled endpapers; gilt top edge. Frontis portrait with tissue guard; 132 photogravures including 32 full plates taken by the author and hunting companion Captain C.R.E. Radclyffe; 16"x 22" folded colour map of the Bering expedition inserted in red band attached to rear pastedown; Appendix titled: Synopsis of The Animals Collected By The Author During His Expedition: A. Mammals, by Professor Paul Matschie; B. Birds, by Professor Dr. Reichenow; C. Invertebrate Animals; Index.

Light rubbing to board edges and light scratching to boards; binding is tight and square. Text block is bright and white with a very occasional and very light thumb or toning mark and otherwise fine. Front free blank pages have toning and rear free marbled endpaper is marked from a removed label. Tail of map has a 1inch square with blank front in place of blue ocean; light toning and tiny nicks along map's center fold. Overall this volume is in lovely and collectible condition.

The first English edition of Mes croisières dans la Mer de Behring was published in 1909 by Rowland Ward as: "Cruises in The Bering Sea, Being Records Of Further Sport And Travel". Both editions were dedicated by Niedieck to President Theodore Roosevelt. Neiedkieck provides a detailed account with pictures and map of his 1906 trip from Japan to the east coast of Kamchatka and the Gulf of Anadyr across Bering Strait to Nome and southward to Unalaska, Kenai Peninsula and down the inside passage. Contents include descriptions of big game hunting, mining and fisheries of Alaska; flora, fauna, birds and animals and observations on the Northern Indigenous Chukchis, Aleuts and Tinglit peoples.
