Weyen. Headbands, initials and tailpieces engraved on wood. SCARCE, the original edition of the translation into French verse by Thomas Corneille of the first two books of the Metamorphoses of Ovid. Bound in contemporary full calf, gilt back, marbled end papers, edges red, ribbon marker. Very Good, rubbed at edges and corners. Small early bookplate front paste down "Ex Libris Le Sestre, Canon." and the not much larger bookplate of Ludovic Halevy (1834-1908) French author and playwright best known for his collaboration with Henri Meilhac on Georges Bizet's CARMEN and on the works of Jacques Offenbach. An edition with notable French literary provenance and made desirable by its typography and ornamentation. . First Edition. Calf. Very Good/No Jacket, As Issued. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
