Price-clipped dustwrapper is in quite poor shape, with the top left-hand and bottom right-hand corners missing on front panel, also the lower1.5 inches at the spine. Minor bumping to spine ends and corners of yellow boards, original owner's school prize inscription dated 1947 on f/ep, but otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover childrens story. Originally published in 1940, this is the third reprint from 1948. Author was the wife of John (''Thirty-Nine Steps'') Buchan. Dustwrapper illustration shows a boy riding a horse with some white mice sitting behind him, and with a china pig following them; small blue illustration on front board showing a boy talking to a Chinese man holding a hoe. Not a very common book, and rare to find the dustwrapper. 192pp, colour frontispiece, 6 full-page b&w drawings. Hard Cover. Good/Poor. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
