In this work Jack London exposes cruelties practiced by trainers of animals for the vaudeville stage. "Michael, Brother of Jerry" stimulated the formation of Jack London Clubs throughout the US (membership was reported at 400,000 by 1924) leading to the virtual disappearance of on-stage animal acts.
