Sobre este artículo
Philip Wilson Publishers, 2000-08. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Large format hardcover, ISBN 0856675113, 2000, 310 pages with Glossary, Biographies, Bibliography, Exhibition History and Index. Near Fine hardcover in Very Good dustjacket, with minor wear and bump to upper right front. The Gilbert Collection of Mosaics is well-known for its selection of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Italian mosaics featuring "views of Rome and images from ancient history and mythology, painstakingly worked in minute tesserae, a technique known as 'micromosaics'.... There has been no publication on micromosaics in English since Alvar Gonzalez-Palacio's catalog of the Gilbert Collection, published in 1982 and long ouf print. This new volume examines the collection through full-colour illustrations and detailed descriptions and commentaries. New research into the workshops and business practices of two significant Roman mosaicists derived from the archives of the Vatican Mosaic Workshops is detailed in an essay by Massimo Alfieri, while Judy Rudoe explores the techniques and materials of small-scale Roman micromosaic objects." Author Jeanette Gabriel is former Assistant Curator of the Gilbert Collection of Mosaics, before leaving the museum to become Albert Gilbert's private curator.
