Illustrated with seven maps and many in-text images. Collated complete. The history of The Midland Railway, the third largest railway undertaking in the British Isles, established 1844. With particular reference to the Birmingham, Derby, Leicester, and Manchester lines. Written by Frederick Smeeton Williams, an English minister in the Congregational Church best known for his books on the early history of UK railways. Dated from the British Library. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, worn with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Splits in the cloth at the head and tail of the spine, the joints, and board tips. Joints starting. Fading to the spine with marks to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot or handling mark. The odd pencil mark. Good Only

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
