"Mather's authorship of this book is established by his letter of June 12. 1722 to Thomas Prince, who put the work to press. Mather had mentioned Fleet as a possible printer, but it came forth without any printers name attached. The typography strongly resembles the work not of Thomas Fleet but of Samuel Kneeland. The author contributed fifty shillings towards the cost of printing, and planned to distribute his share of copies in Connecticut. The author takes the subject of service to illustrate and typlify the life and work of a minister, which in its various aspects is dealt withthroughout the sermon. " [HOLMES].
