Grenfell, a pioneer in the development of Labrador and Newfoundland, Canada in the late 1800's. Grenfell was a medical missionary who attended London Hospital Medical College, graduating in 1888. He was sent to Newfoundland in 1892 to develop a medical mission. He initially opened hospitals in Newfoundland and throughout coastal Labrador. Later, he expanded his mission to develop schools, an orphanage, cooperatives, industrial work projects, and social work. He was one of the most profound people to develop this land in Northeastern Canada, and did a great deal to help the residents. He was later knighted by King George V on behalf of the people of these communities. He later came to America in 1910 and studied interior design at the Art Institute of Chicago. He supervised many interior design projects in the midwest in the 1920's, and began designing and making etchings. In 1930, he devoted his business to etchings full-time, and became very famous in this arena, winning both national and international awards; This book covers many elements of interior design in the format of twenty different lessons; Please email me for a comprehensive list of the lesson titles; There are many, many illustrations throughout the book; Book has dark red boards with gilt lettering; There is a 2" crack at the bottom of the crease on the front cover of the book, but it only impacts the cover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. 617pp; A classic, detailed study of Europe as it was more than 120 years ago; Beautiful green boards with gilt and black lettering and decorations; Some bumping and rubbing, but the cover is actually in very good condition for its age; Pages are yellowed, but are tight and clean, other than the owner's name on the title page; More than half of the pages are unopened, including a big majority of those after page 105; There are some pages that were badly opened, which has resulted in some tears and chips, but this is only on a few pages; The title page has a significant tear in the upper left corner, but nothing is missing; Some pages are slightly wrinkled as well; There is a black stain on the bottom edge that measures about 2" x 1/2". Very Good/No Dust Jacket. 508pp; This book is an incredible look at history from an 1876 perspective going back to Biblical times; These papers were originally published in Harper's New Monthly Magazine, and then were compiled for this book; I can find no firm proof that this is from a first printing, but the date on the title page matches the date on the copyright page (at that time, the Act of Congress date); Maroon boards with gilt lettering have substantial bumping and rubbing, but the binding is very tight; There is tape reinforcement along the front inside cover; Owner's name on front inside cover; Pages are yellowed, but are tight and clean; The number 3260 appears at the bottom of the Preface page, but I'm not sure if this was a numbered edition, or signifies something else. M. A. Donohue & Co, Chicago, IL, 1922. Hardcover. Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. This is an art book for children. There are numerous illustrations ready to be colored. Many are here twice, one having been colored by the publishers as an example, and the other to be colored by the owner. Others are here only once, with a blank page next to them for the owner to reproduce the illustration and then color it. A couple of the drawings appear to have been colored already, but they were done SO well that I'm not completely sure of that. The book is housed in a box, which has sides and corners that are very worn, but both top and bottom are intact. Virtually impossible to find in the original box.
