Sobre este artículo

Boston: Houghton Mifflin & Company The Riverside Press, 1902. publisher's cloth, paper spine label. Rogers, Bruce. 8vo. publisher's cloth, paper spine label. 159, (1) pages. First edition designed by Bruce Rogers and printed at The Riverside Press (The Work of Bruce Rogers, #86, page 16; Haas 40). This copy has the ownership inscription in ink of Dewitt Miller on the rear pastedown. Spine lightly faded, light foxing to covers, spine label lightly soiled.

Miller was an obsessive book collector, which began in his youth. About 1888, he started to appreciate books as works of art by collecting the works of William Pickering. Miller amassed a nearly-comprehensive collection of the works of John Baskerville. The typography is by the notable American book designer Bruce Rogers (1870-1957), who "was appreciated in his lifetime. In addition to several honorary degrees, in 1948 he was awarded a gold medal from the American Academy of Arts and Letters for distinction in the graphic arts. Over decades of accomplishment in which he designed approximately 500 books... Rogers literally defined the profession of book designing in the United States" (ANB). Francis Meynell stated that Rogers was."the greatest artificer of the book who ever lived

Sobre Oak Knoll Books/Oak Knoll Press

Oak Knoll Books was founded in 1976 by Bob Fleck, a chemical engineer by training, who let his hobby get the best of him. Somehow making oil refineries more efficient using mathematics and computers paled in comparison to the joy of handling books. Oak Knoll Press, the second part of the business, was established in 1978 as a logical extension of Oak Knoll Books. Oak Knoll Books is a thriving company that maintains an inventory of about 20,000 titles. Our main specialties are books about bibliography, book collecting, book design, book illustration, book selling, bookbinding, bookplates, children's books, Delaware books, fine press books, forgery, graphic arts, libraries, literary criticism, marbling, papermaking, printing history, publishing, typography & type specimens, and writing & calligraphy - plus books about the history of all of these fields.
