The Red House is a seaside hotel with four permanent residents. Mr. Haxton seems to be curiously inquisitive about Eileen, the deaf daughter of the owner, Mrs. Hughes. It's no great surprise when Mrs. Hughes turns up dead, for she was mean. Descriptions of the characters and their lives together are humorously real. I don't read fiction, but I think I would enjoy reading this book. 208 pp..
