THE MORMON COLONIES IN MEXICO
de Romney, Thomas Cottam

Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Company, 1938. First edition. Romney provides a history of the colonies with a chapter on "Mormonism" for those unfamiliar with church history and doctrines. "Some years ago, when captivated by Dr. Romney's tales of pioneer days on the vast Plains of Chihuahua, in the semi-tropical valleys of Sonora, and in the formidable Sierra Madre that lies between .... I urged him to write his personal experiences during that life, so full of adventure and of human significance. Now in this book, he has fulfilled my wish, and in it has gone beyond to write a full-length account of the migration and settlement in which he took part." - Dr. Herbet E. Bolton, foreword. The colonies were first established by Mormons fleeing from U.S. authorities for the practice of polygamy; and for a time flourished there -- until the Mexican Revolution in 1910, when anti-foreign sentiment resulted in threats to their lives and property. 8vo gilt-stamped brown pebbled-grain cloth boards; 338 pages including index. Illustrated with 13 pages of photographs and a folding map showing the general location of the colonies. Spine shows a few scuffs, spine ends softened and a bit rubbed, spine lettering slightly dulled otherwise very good or better. Relatively uncommon in the first edition.

New York: Macmillan Company, 1971. First printing. Hardcover. Very Good/very good-. 8vo. xviii, 366 pp. Bound in full red cloth stamped in gilt and black on spine in illustrated dust jacket. Black and white photographs. Includes index. Inscribed by author on front free endpaper: "To Arron (sic) Rabinowitz/with congratulations and/best wishes for his/success in putting the/right person in the/Hall of Fame!/from Helen Hall." Aaron Rabinowitz, a prominent New York City real estate developer and philanthropist, was a client of Henry Street Settlement when he emigrated from Russia in 1884. He was a steadfast admirer of Henry Street Settlement founder Lillian Wald. The inscription from Hall, Henry Street Settlement's second director, likely refers to Rabinowitz's efforts to have Wald inducted into New York University's Hall of Fame for Great Americans. Minneapolis: Angel Bomb Press, 2014. Softcover. Fine. Softcover. Open edition. Author and printer Todd Thyberg founded Angel Bomb Press after several years working with other printers and does both commercial printing and limited edition books. He writes of his powerful and timely book: "With a tip of the hat to printers and activists of the past, American Manifesto calls the United States citizens to action on a number of national concerns—our country's health, leadership, and environment, to name a few. This book was devised as a piece of activist artwork; utilizing my vintage presses as they were originally intended: to make important statements about important issues." He continues: "If America really is the best country on earth...why do so many of our people go hungry? Why do our leaders consistently work for corporate interests rather than individuals' rights? How can our leaders, the media, and we the public still be ignorant to the factual reality of climate change? Why can someone go to…

Fine, hardcover, first edition, and first printing book that is clean and tight. The book is inscribed and signed by the author. Inscription reads, "Richard, enjoy." Book will be bubble wrapped upon shipping.Unraveling the many myths and misconceptions surrounding America's most iconic spirit, Bourbon Empire traces a history that spans frontier rebellion, Gilded Age corruption, and the magic of Madison Avenue. Whiskey has profoundly influenced America's political, economic, and cultural destiny, just as those same factors have inspired the evolution and unique flavor of the whiskey itself.Taking readers behind the curtain of an enchanting—and sometimes exasperating—industry, the work of writer Reid Mitenbuler crackles with attitude and commentary about taste, choice, and history. Few products better embody the United States, or American business, than bourbon.

Seller will carefully wrap book in bubble wrap, box it, and ship it with tracking.NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER"A page-turner masterpiece." —Jim LehrerIn a 2017 survey, presidential historians ranked Dwight D. Eisenhower fifth on the list of great presidents, behind the perennial top four: Lincoln, Washington, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Teddy Roosevelt. Historian William Hitchcock shows that this high ranking is justified. Eisenhower's accomplishments were enormous, and loom ever larger from the vantage point of our own tumultuous times.A former general, Ike kept the peace: he ended the Korean War, avoided a war in Vietnam, adroitly managed a potential confrontation with China, and soothed relations with the Soviet Union after Stalin's…

This book is in good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine, edges and corner of the cover. There is some dog-earring on the right corner pages of the book. The pages are white, crisp and clear of any markings. "This is a history of the visual arts produced in the geographical area that now constitutes the United States. Such a book is difficult to title. A History of United States Art sounds awkward and logically might even be construed to exclude the arts of the colonial period. Thus, with apologies to our northern and southern neighbors, I use the title A History of American Art, knowing full well that the terms America and the United States are not synonymous...." - Preface from A History of American Art
