Macmillan, London., 1920. First edition. Octavo. pp xviii, 290. Photographs. Period binding of half green morocco with raised bands, green cloth sides. This copy has been extra-illustrated with reproductions of two water-colours and one pen-and-ink drawing by Mortimer Menpes mounted on the front free endpaper, its verso and on the verso of the first blank. The pictures are presumably from Menpes' World Pictures (A. and C. Black, 1902).Spine faded. Some rubbing to the corners. The plate facing p.144 has small red splashes of what might be blood but perhaps nothing more menacing than red ink. Very good, internally bright copy. Scarce.
Sinopsis
American novelist and designer Edith Wharton traveled to Morocco after the end of World War I. Morocco is her account of her time there as the guest of General Hubert Lyautey. Her account praises Lyautey and his wife and also the French administration of the country.
