Sobre este artículo
New York: T.W. Strong, 1859. 1st. Decorative Cloth. Collectible; Very Good. 1859 1st edition of this uncommon, early collection of the games of the great American master Paul Morphy (1837-1884) and puzzles by the great 19th century American organizer of tournament chess Thomas Frere. Believed by many to be the strongest player in the world at his peak, the enigmatic Morphy "retired" from the game at a very early age but left an indelible impression. As well as being a world-renowned chess lecturer and author, Morphy played a leading role in organizing the first world chess championship, won by the great German player William Steinitz. This fragile and precious collection of Morphy's games has held up very nicely. Blindstamped decorative panels, bright gilt-decorated and lettered spine. 16mo, 144 pgs. Light rubbing to the panels and light fraying along the spine ends but still a very presentable and sturdy copy of this chess rarity.
