Sobre este artículo
New York: William Sloane Associates, Inc., 1958. 8vo size hardcover with dust jacket; 347 pages. Maps illustrate the endpapers and there are few map decorations within the text. This was the first novel for political reporter and historian Theodore White, perhaps best known for his Making of the President series of books, beginning with the election of John F. Kennedy in 1960. White (1915 - 1986) began his journalism career as a reporter in China during World War II. From jacket: "The time is 1944. The setting: East China in flames. The characters: a New England major with his first command - a tough and surly American demolition unit isolated in the great China retreat of that turbulent year; Su-Piao, a strong and beautiful Chinese woman educated in American, who must join them over his protests; and Kwan, a frosty Chinese colonel who loves his country but must help ravage it." This novel was made into a movie in 1960 starring Jimmy Stewart and Lisa Lu. Jacket has rubbing, significant edgewear and wear and tear including a one inch tear on the spine side of front cover and some minor chipping to top and bottom of jacket spine. We note a fingermark in the bottom margin of page seven. . Book Club (BCE/BOMC). Hard Cover. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
