Thriller of a sort, concerning a man who is "violently sorry for people". The character has some family background in India, and the Thuggee cult. Beyond that, I don't know what to tell you, but it looks interesting. VG in like jacket--Jacket is bright, with a touch of chipping at head of spine and bottom front.. A little soil or sunning to rear panel and flaps, tiny dot to bottom edge, some foxing top edge.

Colour illustrated dustwrapper with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. A small cast of characters – a father who has beggered himself to get his son acquitted of murder, a psychiatrist and his unpleasant wife and the mysterious Mr Byculla – he of the mixed parentage and strange background – and a well used £5 note, which precipitates an intriguing mystery. Softening and fading of the back strip edges with some patchy fading of the top edge and a little to the lower edge – commensurate with loss of dustwrapper. Age toning of the text block edges and pages with offset tanning to the end pages.
