Internals very clean, unmarked, pages toned. Double column format. Binding is tight, solid, square with endbands. Lower corner edge of text block a little darkened. Contents are the novel 'Of Human Bondage' and four short pieces plus 'The Summing UP' from A Writer's Notebook. W. Somerset Maugham (1874-1965) was an English novelist, short-story writer and playwright. He is known for his economy of expression, satire, and ironical detachment. "Of Human Bondage", first published 1915, partially autobiographical, is considered his finest work and is considered part of the Western Canon, a body of books that have been traditionally accepted by Western scholars as the most important and influential in shaping Western culture. 688 pages. 8.5 x 5.5 inches. 1954, Doubleday, New York, New York, USA.
