[Gérard, Jean-Ignace-Isidore (1803 – 1847)], Grandville, Les Métamorphoses du Jour par Grandville Accompagnées d'un Texte par MM. Albéric Second, Louis Lurine, Clément Caraguel, Taxile Delord, H. De Beaulieu, Louis Huart, Charles Monselet, Julien Lemer Précédées d'une Notice sur Grandville par M. Charles Blanc. Nouvelle Édition Revue et complétée pour le texte par M. Jules Janin Augmentée de Nombreux Culs-de-Lampe, Têtes de Pages, Etc. Paris : Garnier Frères, Libraires-Éditeurs, 6, rue des Saints-Pères, et Palais-Royal, 215, 1869. 8vo. Collation : [ii; frontispiece, title-page (ii) ; lxiii ; 480 pages]. Bound in half red morocco on marbled boards. Five raised bands. Top page edge gilded. 71 full-page hand-colored wood-block plates bound in. This edition contains the same plates as the edition of 1854 and in the same order, but with these differences: 1) They do not have the name of the printer on them; 2) A majority of these plates are signed in the plate "J.-J. Grandville"; 3) These are printed on heavier paper; 4) On a great number of the plates the legends are modified or augmented. Some light foxing, but still a very good, untrimmed copy in a very secure binding. Enjoying great success during Grandville's lifetime, Les Métamorphoses du Jour put human language and human behavior into animals, thus creating a moral satire of human behavior. Les Métamorphoses du Jour first appeared in 1836. See: Vicaire, Vol. V, 787 – 788 ; Cartaret III : 284-285.

312 pages with illustrations. Small octavo (7 3/4" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's black cloth with front board and spine stamped in turquoise in original publisher's pictorial jacket. Signed by the author on the front free end paper. First edition.Though Thorne Smith's most popular works involve elements of fantasy and science fiction, the clever novel Turnabout takes his penchant for incorporating supernatural and magical themes in his work and puts one such plot twist to use as a comedic tool. An ancient Egyptian idol grows weary of the seemingly never-ending spats between the Willows, a young married couple, and forces them to switch bodies. As you might expect, hilarious hijinks ensue. Sally Willows envied her adman husband his glamorous work; Tim Willows felt Sally lived in ease and luxury while he was sweating to pay the bills. So an ill-tempered minor god, tired of their bickering, worked a modest miracle, and Sally Willows, now occupying her husband's body, experienced the full… Leer más

Only 1 copy in OCLC, dated 1881. 12mo, 125pp. A book of useful phrases for conducting business and travel, geared toward the native French speaker, with the bulk of the text printed simultaneously in English on facing pages. Contains trade-specific scenarios and vocabulary. Quarter leather with marbled boards, in Near Fine condition with minor shelfwear and a hint of foxing throughout. Based on the style of binding and paper, we suspect the volume to have been custom-bound by its owner, Bousquet, whose signature appears on both the pastedown and the half-title page—else clean and unmarked. Rare volume in excellent condition.
