The farm boy watches him settle in and find a mate, ready to raise a family, but a stoat arrives and attacks the kiwi. The boy wonders if he will ever see kiwi in his bush again. Later, the kiwi chick comes back with a mate, so kiwi is once again in his bush. Illustrated by Dave Gunson. There are notes about the kiwi, a New Zealand native bird. at the rear of the book.
