[New York]: Limited Editions Club, (1991). Yuri Kuper. First of this edition. One of 250 numbered copies Illustrated with six original etchings by Yuri Kuper SIGNED by the illustrator on the colophon page, and this copy with each etching signed in pencil by Yuri Kuper -- though not issued as such. One of the smallest limitations of the club. Translated by Mark Rudman. "In Russian poetry, Boris Pasternak's My Sister-Life is the equivalent of The Waste Land, Spring and All, and Harmonium. But it is also accessible to the general reader, and belongs on a slender shelf of great love poems . . . Pasternak is an uncompromisingly complex poetic stylist, and his meticulous attention to structure, etymology, and the phonetic qualities of words makes his poetry a formidable challenge for the translator. Mark Rudman renders Pasternak's poetic masterpiece with verve and intelligence" (from cover of recent Northwestern University edition). Large folio (16 x 23") with gray goatskin spine and treated handmade paper boards using the same paper as the text. Housed in a slipcase of gray linen-rayon. Printed letterpress on paper made by hand to resemble the sort of stock produced in the 1920s in the Soviet Union. Monthly Letter laid in. A beautiful edition printed on handmade paper recycling various Cyrillic printings. Kuper's work is found in the permanent collections of MoMA, Moscow Museum of Fine Arts, Fonds National d'Art Contemporain in Paris, etc. Publishers' newsletter laid in. Fine in a fine slipcase. WITH EACH PRINT SIGNED BY THE ARTIST, YURI KUPER

Descripción:
[New York]: The Limited Editions Club, 1991. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Kuper, Yuri. No. 65 of 250, elephant folio size, 89 pp., signed by Yuri Kuper. Boris Pasternak (1890-1960) is perhaps best known in the English-speaking world for his novel, "Doctor Zhivago" - it was smuggled out of the USSR and published in Milan in 1957, earning Pasternak the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1958. This work, "My Sister - Life", is his first published collection of poems and is considered one of the most influential collections ever published in the Russian language. Controversial when it was first published five years after the October Revolution of 1917, the revolutionary spirit pervades the poems - not in the political sense but in the spirit of beginning again. The artist, Yuri Kuper (b. 1940), has worked in several mediums, and his work for "My Sister - Life" recalls the Russian Constructivists' radical, dynamic, geometric abstractions in his use of strong diagonals and primarily geometric forms.… Leer más

Large folio (16" x 23") imaginatively halfbound with a gray goatskin spine and the same leather used as strips on the fore-edge of each cover with treated handmade paper sides using the same paper as the text. Housed in a slipcase made of tough gray linen-rayon. Printed letterpress on paper made by hand to resemble the sort of stock produced in the 1920s in the Soviet Union. To attain this effect, Russian newspapers were cut into minute pieces and incorporated with rags and cotton pulp with individual Cyrillic letters floated onto the mixture before the process was completed. Illustrated with six etchings by Yuri Kuper printed in Paris on Hahnemuhle paper by Aldo Crommelynck, whose superlative techniques, inherited from the European crafts tradition, have been used by such artists as Picasso, Jasper Johns, and Jim Dine.
