Sobre este artículo
Smithsonian Institution Press, Washington, D.C., 1989; First Edition; quarto, 166 pages; beige cloth, gilt titles. Detailed monograph of John K. Hillers (1843-1902), official photographer for both the Smithsonian Institution’s Bureau of American Ethnology and the United States Geological Survey in the latter part of the 19th century. Hillers’ interest in photography was accidentally sparked while serving as boatman on an expedition down the Colorado River with explorer William Powell. His newfound skill with a camera soon garnered him many federal anthropological and geological assignments throughout the American West documenting such places as Southern Utah, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Zion, and the Indian pueblos of New Mexico and Arizona. Authored by Don D. Fowler, Professor of Historical Preservation at University of Nevada and former president of the Society for American Archaeology. Copiously illustrated with over 120 of Hillers’ photographs, including a multitude of magnificent full-frame Indian portraits, plus a number of never before published photos captured on a trip to Eastern Oklahoma Indian Territory in 1875. Fine, in a Fine dust jacket.
