Half bound in leather with marbled papers to sides, marbled closed page edges and marbled endpapers. Raised bands to spine with gilt detail. Black leather label and gilt titles to spine. Leather to compartments is blind impressed with faint repeating pattern. Engraving to title page and many further illustrations throughout. Binding is sound though worn. Leather is slightly faded with numerous surface scuffs and small nicks. External hinges are rubbed but remain sound and internally all three books are free from cracking to joints and gatherings are tight. Text is clean and pages are crisp making for a pleasant to read set. Marbled papers are surface scuffed but generally clean. Some bumping to corners. Tiny areas of board are exposed to the edges where the papers are very rubbed. Good set . Hardback. 1845.

Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
