Known as one of Canada' greatest story tellers, he lived through the 1917 Halifax Explosion, at the age of 15 became a marine telegrapher and served at sea before he was posted to remote Sable Island, off the coast of Nova Scotia. He then bought a typewriter and became a writer. This is the story of his courage, his suffering and his successes through all his experiences.
