Once banned for its perceived obscenity, "Nana" is the 9th in author's 20-volume Les Rougon-Macquart series. Emile Zola (1840-1902) first published "Nana" in 1880. This Modern Library reprint edition with an introduction by Ernest Boyd and a dust jacket illustration of the title character and an admirer on a Paris street. --- In Toledano spine 8 / green cloth / gilt titling on black spine & cover blocks / black topstain / grey Kent endpapers / jacket style i, verso lists 393 titles in ML catalog. Likely published c.1960 (no publication date appears in book). ML #142.1. --- A well-preserved copy: clean, tightly-bound, bright and lacking markings. Sinopsis
A neuf heures, la salle du theatre des Varietes etait encore vide. En haut seulement, a la troisieme galerie, autour de la rotonde du plafond ou des femmes et des enfants nus prenaient leur volee dans un ciel verdi par le gaz, des appels et des rires sortaient d'un brouhaha continu de voix, des tetes coiffees de bonnets et de casquettes s'etageaient sous les larges baies rondes, encadrees d'or.
