Original publisher's magenta cloth lettered gilt on spine. Patterned endpapers. Orange dust jacket with photographic illustrations to both upper and lower cover lettered black and white. Loosely inserted good handwritten signed letter from Hugh Ford to Joan Stevens written on headed notepaper from State of New Jersey, Trenton State College, Trenton N. J. Department of English dated 26 May 1975 and consisting of about 140 words in which he gives Stevens details of books he has edited about Nancy Cunard including this one. He also mentions his new book about presses operated in Paris by English and American publishers in the 20s and 30s entitled 'Published in Paris'. He says it includes a chapter about Nancy Cunard's Hours Press. Also loosely inserted a good typed signed letter from ? an unknown correspondent to Joan Stevens written on headed notepaper from Mill Pool Cottage, Ellingham, Bungay, Suffolk. NR35 2EP dated 1st October 1998 and consisting of about 265 words (some handwritten) in which he discusses Kokoschka who was also 'a writer of sorts'. He goes on to mention the Menchers [Barrie and Elaine] who he agrees focus on Theodore Powys. He continues by reminiscing about Kilburn Grammar School and the house he grew up in at 26, Hawthorne Road NW10. Occasional notes in Stevens' hand on Ford's letter. Hugh Ford's memorial volume on Nancy Cunard's life and writing consists of reminiscences by friends and aquaintances of Cunard. Joan Stevens the feminist bookseller and expert on John Cowper Powys and Edward Thomas died in 2015. Edges of dust jacket a little creased and rubbed. Very good.
