This is a photo album entitled "Nanniwan" filled with black and white photos and a few propaganda paintings and photos in color. This collection consists primarily of photos taken by Chinese photographer Wu Qinxian in Yan'an and Nanniwan between 1937 and 1943, It also includes a few photos of Nanniwan as of the mid 1970s. Wu Yinxian (1900 - 1994), considered one of the great Chinese photographers, was a visual storyteller who had a close acquaintance with Chairman Mao Zedong, Initially taking pictures of the working class in Shanghai and their difficult lives, Wu Yinxian went on to work as a cinematographer on a number of extremely popular, often leftist, films in the 1930s and 40s, among them the large-scale documentary entitled  "Nanniwan" filmed by Mr. Wu Yinxian in 1943.  Nanniwan was the location where the Eighth Route Army opened up wasteland and cultivated land during the Anti-Japanese War.
