The First UK printing published by Methuen, London in 1924. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. Light pushing at the spine ends. A little light rubbing at the corners. Gilt titling and decorations to the spine and boards remains bright. Free from inscriptions and erasures. Light offsetting to the end-papers. Some toning and spotting to the text-block. Light toning to the extreme page edges. with a little light spotting to the prelims. The WRAPPER is in Very Good- condition with mild edge wear and loss at the spine ends (see images. Large closed tears to the lower spine folds and a smaller one to the upper rear flap fold. Some toning to the spine and folds. Despite the issues, the wrapper presents well in the removable Brodart archival cover. The 16 B/W plates are present and clean. A very scarce title with such attributes and a very early historical biography from the author who went on to write the 'Hornblower's series and 'The African Queen'. Collectible.
