Sobre este artículo

London: John Murray, 1859. First edition. Cloth. Good Only. 9" by 6". Not Stated. A first edition copy of this naval and maritime work by Captain Leopold McClintock, narrating his experiences exploring Arctic waters. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. This work narrates the voyage Captain Leopold McClintock (1819-1907) aboard the 'Fox' as it made its way through Arctic waters. In 1857, McClintock and his crew were in search for the remains of Sir John Franklin, who, nearly fifteen years prior, had set out to chart the elusive Northwest Passage. He and his crew had never returned, and it became Captain McClintock's job to find their remains. Captain McClintock received the Arctic Medal from Queen Victoria after this successful mission. This work contains nineteen illustrations, four of which are folding plates, collated and complete. Bookplate of Leonard Harrison Matthews to the front pastedown. This copy came from the library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire, the previous home of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). She was an English socialite and through her mother was the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. Externally, bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Spine is faded and rear joint is starting but firm. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, hinges are starting but firm. Binding is loosening in places, most notably between pages 129 and 206. Pages 147 to 158 are detached but present. Rear map is detached but present. Rear free-endpaper has been crudely pasted to the rear pastedown towards the gutter. A tear to the bottom right corner of page 53. Pages contain the odd handling mark or spot, but are generally bright and clean. Good Only
