At the beginning of the text that there is a five page foldout map showing the intertropical and west coasts of Australia. The text is illustrated with numerous black-and-white plates, charts and woodcuts. Red coloured boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. A hint of rubbing to the book corners and dustiness to the book panels. A little offset tanning to the endpapers. Volume 2: -- VIII, 642 pages, four appendices, list of plates. The text is illustrated with black-and-white plates, charts and of wood-cuts. At the rear of the book there is a two page foldout showing a detailed drawing of a Western Australian plant. Red coloured boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. Small amount of rubbing to the book corners and dustiness to the book panels. Offset tanning to the endpapers. These books was first published in London in 1877 and this printing is a direct facsimile from this edition and is one of only 457 sets printed. The explorations of the author, Captain Philip King, during the years 1818 and 1822 around the west coast of Australia and the intertropical areas of northern Australia. Some of the first explorations of this particular part of Australia and there are quite detailed observations on the indigenous Australians, including an appendix of aboriginal language and also of natural history and of the water in the environment.
