National Geographic is the official magazine of the National Geographic Society. It has been published continuously since its first issue in 1888, nine months after the Society itself was founded. It primarily contains articles about geography, history, and world culture. The magazine is known for its extensive use of dramatic photographs. The magazine is published monthly, and additional map supplements are also included with subscriptions. On occasion, special editions of the magazine are issued. This issue includes: New York State's New Main Street with Map and 41 Illustrations (35 in Color) by Matt C. McDade, B. Anthony Stewart, and Robert F. Sisson; The Nation's Newest Old Masters with 36 Illustrations (22 Paintings in Color) by John Walker; Chessmen Come to Life in Marostica with 10 Illustrations (9 in Color) by Alexander Taylor; Vanished Mystery Men of Hudson Bay with Map and 18 Illustrations (14 in Color) by Henry B. Collins and Eugene Ostroff; Sports-minded Melbourne, Host to the Olympics, Map with 5 Illustrations; and Zoo Animals Go to School with 13 Illustrations by Marion P. McCrane and W. E. Garrett. Marion P. McCrane headed the Information and Education Division of the National Zoological Park from 1962 through 1968. Eugene Ostroff (6 July 1928 - 26 August 1999) was a historian and curator of the Photographic History Collection at the National Museum of American History. Wilbur E. "Bill" Garrett, was once picture editor of National Geographic magazine.
