Sobre este artículo

The Civil War had ended, and on October 28, 1865 President Andrew Johnson proclaimed that the country should celebrate a National Thanksgiving Day on the first Thursday of December of 1865. The "National Thanksgiving Services" -- held on Thursday, December 7, 1865, in the Hall of the House of Representatives of the United States of America. -- Discourse by Rev. C.B. Boynton, D.D., Chaplain of the House, and Historic References to Thanksgiving Occasions in Former Eras of Our Republic is part of the record of that day's celebrations. The full text of President Johnson's proclamation appears on the first page of the booklet, with the remainder of the document containing Rev. Boynton's sermon and references to other national thanksgivings.

The material is contained in a string-bound sixteen page double-columned booklet, without covers, that measures approximately 5 ¾ x 9 inches. The booklet is a first edition, as printed in Washington, D.C. in 1865 by W. H. & O.H. Morrison. The pages are tanned, but the text is clear and easily read. Most pages are either detached or semi-detached. There is some chipping along the page edges. The overall condition of the item is fair/good.

The illustrations accompanying this description show the title page of the booklet and the first page of the text.

Sobre Pages For Sages

Pages For Sages has been in the business of buying and selling rare and used books, ephemera, and other unusual items for over forty years. We have long depended on book fairs, printed catalogs, auctions, and the like to support the business. Now, in our later years (ages 90 and 92) we are taking this step to display a catalog of inventory on the Biblio web site for your consideration. The number of our listings will grow as we continue the process of adding items from our inventory - please come back from time to time to find additional offerings.
