After an opening chapter on the Scientific Movement in the early 17th century, Knight goes on to discuss the founding of the Royal Society, and the consequences, bibliographic and otherwise , that flowed from this. Succeeding sections discuss Natural Theology, Newtonian Physics, 18th Century Industrial Revolution, Chemistry in the Romantic Period, and the Decline of Science. Concludes with three chapters on the 19th century : Biology and Geology, the Diffusion of Science, and Scientific Publications.
