London, UK Cadogan Books, 1986. Paperback Reprint Edition (1986) of the First Edition (1913) which was published by Methuen. Near Fine in Wraps: shows only the most minute indications of use: just a hint of shelf-soiling to the bottom edge of the text block and very faint but pervasive foxing to the top edge and fore-edge; else flawless; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Free of creases to the panels. Free of creases to the backstrip. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. Free of any ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, plates, or labels. A handsome, very nearly-new copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing a couple of minor, unobtrusive imperfections. Bright and clean. Corners sharp. Very close to 'As New'. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (8.2 x 5.8 x 1.25 inches). xxi, 251 pages + 229 Pages. Index. Map. Inttroduction by Geoffrey Smith. Language: English. Weight: 23 ounces. Plant Hunters Series. Reprint Edition (1986) of the First Edition (1913) which was published by Methuen. Paperback: Pictorial Wraps. E. H. Wilson (1876 1930), was a notable British plant collector and explorer who introduced a large range of about 2000 Asian plant species to the West. From his years of work in Western China in the early 1900s, Ernest Henry Wilson introduced numerous new plants to the gardens of Europe and North America. In these books the author describes expeditions on behalf of the famous nursery of Veitch & Sons to find and collect seeds, bulbs, plants and also herbarium material for Kew Gardens. He paints a vivid picture of the natural history of the region and of the culture and customs of the people. In recognition of his service to horticulture he received many awards such as the Royal Horticultural Society's Veitch Memorial Medal in 1906 and their Victoria Medal of Honour in 1912, and the George Robert White Memorial Medal of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. He was a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and received an honorary M.A. degree from Harvard University and a D.Sc. degree from Trinity College. Over 100 plants introduced by Wilson have received the First-Class Certificate or Awards of Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society of London. Sixty species and varieties of Chinese plants bear his name.
