Designed to tap into the growing societal panic about out-of-control teenagers in the late-1960s, with hints of the Satanic Panic that would arise during the next decade. Orig. published in hardcover in 1969, this is the First Mass Market Paperback Edition, First Printing, from Pyramid (#N2384), issued in Jan. 1971, interestingly enough, without the original subtitle ("A Modern Essay in the Macabre"). In 254 pages + 2 pages of ads for other Pyramid titles in rear. Condition is VG+: completely clean inside, pages modestly tanned but unmarked, binding tight & square, spine uncreased. Mild-moderate rubbing to extremities, heaviest along top edge of front & lower edge of back covers, which are a bit ragged. Teeny tear at head of spine on back cover.
