Photo record of findings of Yang Shao culture on the banks of Chanhe River, Xian, Shannxi, now housed at the Banpo Museum. Site discovered 1953; excavations of 1954 and 1957, reveled 45 houses, caves for storage & earthenware with some 200 tombs, skeletal remains in pots, and a rich collections of tools and utensils. The Yangshao Neolithic culture existed along the Yellow River in China, dating from around 5000 BC to 3000 BC; its first village site was discovered in 1921 in Henan Province by the Swedish archaeologist Johan Gunnar Andersson (1874 -1960).
