Rebecca Goodale's heart-shaped flags are accompanied by Miller's poem. Wild ginger, a low perennial with two heart-shaped leaves, is listed in Maine's threatened flora category. Photographs taken by a Nikon 7100 digital SLR equipped with a 60 mm macro lens and a polarizing filter mounted on a monopod. The specimen images, created using photopolymer plates made by Boxcar Press, habitat spreads, and handset type were letterpress printed on thick Awagami Kozo with Niyodo Kozo overlays using a Vandercook Universal III abp Press. Written, designed, printed, and bound by Rebecca Chamlee. Signed and numbered by Chamlee. Macmillan and Co. London. 1891. FIRST THOMSON EDITION, Large paper issue. One of only 300 copies issued. Large 8vo. (10.5 x 7.4 inches). Illustrated throughout with 101 fine line drawings by Thomson. Finely bound by Cedric Chivers of bath in early twentieth century binding of full plum morocco. Spine with raised bands, the compartments ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Decorative line and floral design to both boards. Board edges double ruled in gilt. Mottled coloured endpapers. Turn ins with double ruled lines and floral design. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Two previous owner bookplates on the front paste down endpaper. A little fading to the spine but overall a very near fine copy.

Very rare plate album by Irish landscape painter Frederick Calvert, complete with 24 "picturesque views" and in the original binding. Calvert moved to England in 1815 and, besides painting, produced a number of print albums and model books, a.o. The young artist's instructor (London, Hodgson and Co., 1823) and Rural scenery (London, Hodgson and Co., ca. 1825). He designed plates for Picturesque views ... in Staffordshire and Shropshire (Birmingham, William Emans, 1830-1831), and for A new and compendious history, of the county of Warwick (Birmingham, William Emans, 1830). Perhaps his most famous work was for The Isle of Wight illustrated (1846).
The present work is the rarest of Calvert's published oeuvre, with just 4 copies recorded in WorldCat and none at auction. It formed the basis… Leer más

W. Bromley, Hammersmith, London.,1799FIRST EDITION. Folio.(17.4 x 11.2 inches). 14pp, 9 pages of plates. An early issue of this work, with paper watermarked 1796. Stipple engraved, hand coloured title page and seven full page, hand coloured plates, plus full page engraved speech from As You Like it, titled The ages of Man, featuring one of Shakespeare's most enduring and often quoted lines - All the world's a stage, and all the men and women meerly players- each printed by R. Fenner. The plates are engraved by William Bromley after Stothards drawings. . Fine recent binding of quarter red straight grained morocco, the spine, ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Red morocco tips to corners of boards. Some offsetting from the Illustrations onto the text pages and some staining to the margins only on 5 pages but overall a very good attractive copy of this scarce and beautiful work.

First of the Brussels Foppens editions of Veen's enduringly popular "Emblems from Horace" (principally from the Odes and Satires), a classic of emblematic literature. 4to: [8],205,[3]pp, with full-page engraved coat-of-arms, portrait of "Octavio Vaenius," and 103 engraved emblems with mottoes in Latin and stanzas in French below each plate and verses in Latin, Italian, Dutch and French on verso of preceding plate. Contemporary sprinkled calf, very skillfully rebacked, spine in six compartments between raised bands with central printer's ornament in blind, recent blue morocco lettering piece gilt, title page in red and black with portrait medallion. A fine and clean copy in an early fine binding of half green morocco. The spine has two raised bands, each with decorative gilt tooling. Tan title label, gilt. Gilt ruled box designs. There is an illustrated multi coloured leather onlay design to the middle of the spine showing a couple walking in the rain, under an umbrella. Blue cloth on boards. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Previous owners colour bookplate to the front paste down. A fine copy in a fine binding. The binding is unsigned but certainly the work of a master bookbinder.
