Photographic dust jacket with 9.95 unclipped price. Dust jacket front flap appears to be clipped at the bottom but nothing is missing so it may have been published this way as there is no apparent reason for a clip. ISBN and 5-76 are on bottom of the front dust jacket flap. For almost two hundred years the farming village of New Burlington stood in southwestern Ohio, between Dayton and Cincinnati, a small town just like the towns from which most Americans came. Then in the early nineteen seventys, the United States Army Corps of Engineers began building a dam and behind it, the lake that now covers the village streets. But in New Burlington's final year, a young writer captured on tape the voices of its last few elderly residents, farmers, teachers, blacksmiths, carpenters, doctors, widows. Their collective stories of rural wisdom, of past ways and manners, and well known town scandals.
