Sobre este artículo
Cambridge At the University Press. Very Good/Very Good. 1977. First Edition. Hard Cover. 4to 052121310X No extra postage will be asked for. Dust jacket complete, unclipped.. Green cloth boards with bright gilt titling on spine. No ownership marks. xiv, 542 pages clean and tight. Compiled by J. D. PICKLES. More than two hundred specialists have contributed to the new edition of the Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature. The design of the original work has established itself so firmly as a workable solution to the immense problems of analysis, articulation and coordination that it has been retained in all its essentials for the new edition. The task of the new contributors was to revise and integrate the lists of 1940 and 1957, to add materials of the following decade, to correct and refine the bibliographical details already available, and to reshape the whole according to a new series of conventions devised to give greater clarity and consistency to the entries. The fifth and final volume of the set is a comprehensive index. Although each volume contains a skeleton index, full access to the immense amount of material in the New C.B.E.L. is possible only through the index volume. The index is set out in a single alphabetical list, and contains all primary authors (including those in minor sections), a wide variety of general subject entries, titles of newspapers and periodicals and the names of their publishers, proprietors and editors, titles of anonymous works, pseudonyms, and so on. Women are identified by maiden and married names, personal titles are included, and the whole index is drawn together by a comprehensive system of cross-references. The New C.B.E.L. supersedes the old, but its purpose and effect remain the same. For the student of English literature and history it is an indispensable guide. It is at once a source of learning and a blueprint for research. .
